Names Released In Hutchinson County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-vehicle crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 37 and 281st Street

               Four miles south of Parkston, S.D.

When:   6:58 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018


Driver No. 1: Zachary Johnson, 16, Tyndall, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passenger No. 1: Daniel Johnson, 49, Tyndall, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passenger No. 2: Tina Johnson, 48, Tyndall, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2006 Chevrolet Impala


Driver No. 2: Claris Miller, 77, York, NE, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2016 Peterbilt Semi Truck


PARKSTON, S.D. – Three people from Tyndall, S.D., have been identified as those who died in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning south of Parkston.  


A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was northbound on South Dakota Highway 37 when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road. The vehicle went across the center line and collided with a southbound 2016 Peterbilt semi truck.


Pronounced dead at the scene were all three of the car’s occupants: Zachary Johnson, 16, the driver; and the two passengers, Daniel Johnson, 49, and Tina Johnson, 48.  All three were wearing seatbelts.


Claris Miller, 77, York, NE was driving the semi truck. He was wearing a seatbelt.  


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.



The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
