Highway 14A Slope Stabilization Work to Begin

For Immediate Release:  Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Contact:  Jesse Nelson, 605-390-7978

DEADWOOD, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says slope stabilization work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 30, on Highway 14A just east of Deadwood.

Construction of a reinforced slope below the highway is intended to prevent future settlement of the road at this location.

Work will begin with the installation of traffic control and concrete barriers around the construction area. Westbound traffic will be shifted onto the shoulder and one driving lane in each direction will be maintained.

Construction is expected to be complete before the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August.

Motorists are asked to slow down in the work zone and be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.

Access Limited Construction of Oceano, California is the prime contractor on this $834,000 contract.
