DPS Announces May Sobriety Checkpoints

 

PIERRE, S.D. –  May is a busy month for sobriety checkpoints as the South Dakota Department of Public Safety has scheduled 28 checkpoints in 23 counties.

 

The checkpoints are designed to discourage people from drinking and then driving.  The checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. 

 

May checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of:  Brookings, Brown, Brule, Butte, Charles Mix, Codington, Custer, Hamlin, Hughes, Jackson, Kingsbury, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Spink, Stanley, Walworth, Union and Yankton

 

Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are part of the Department of Public Safety.
