Fall River County Fatal Crash


What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 18, mile marker 22

               10 miles east of Edgemont, S.D.

When:    3 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018


Driver: Male, 18, Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Male, 16, Minor Injuries

                       Female, 15, Minor Injuries

                       Female, 15, Minor Injuries

                       Male, 15, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2000 Subaru Outback


EDGEMONT, S.D. – One person died and four others were injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning east of Edgemont.


Names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


A 2000 Subaru Outback was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 when the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle went off the roadway to the right and eventually rolled.


The 18-year-old male driver was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


All four juvenile passengers, two male and two female, received minor injuries. Two were taken to a nearby hospital and the other two were released to their parents.


None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
