Name Released In Fall River County Fatal Crash

 

What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 18, mile marker 22

               10 miles east of Edgemont, S.D.

When:    3 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018

 

Driver: Antonio Updike, 18, Rapid City, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Male, 16, Rapid City, S.D., Minor Injuries

                       Female, 15, Rapid City, S.D., Minor Injuries

                       Female, 15, Rapid City, S.D., Minor Injuries

                       Male, 15, Rapid City, S.D., Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2000 Subaru Outback

 

EDGEMONT, S.D. – An 18-year-old Rapid City male has been identified as the person who died early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle crash east of Edgemont.

 

Four juvenile passengers received minor injuries.  

 

A 2000 Subaru Outback was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 when the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle went off the roadway to the right and eventually rolled.

 

The driver, Antonio Updike, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

All four juvenile passengers, two male and two female, were from Rapid City. Two were taken to a nearby hospital and the other two were released to their parents.

 

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
