Grant County Fatal Crash


What:     Two-vehicle crash

Where:   SD Highway 15 and 145th Street

                Four miles north of Milbank, S.D.

When:    3:30 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2018


Driver No. 1:  Male, 79, Fatal

Passenger: Female, 71, Fatal

Vehicle: 2016 Chevrolet Equinox


Driver No. 2: Male, 82, Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 1994 Mack Ch600 Dump Truck



MILBANK, S.D.  – Two people died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon north of Milbank.


Names of the three people involved are not being released pending notification of families.  


A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was northbound on South Dakota Highway 15. A 1994 Mack Ch600 Dump Truck was westbound on 145th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with South Dakota Highway 15. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.


Both occupants of the Equinox, the 79-year-old male driver and the 71-year-old female passenger, were pronounced dead at a Milbank hospital. The  82-year-old male truck driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.


All three people were wearing seatbelts. Charges are pending against the truck driver.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
