Third Person Dies From Injuries

Sustained in Grant County Crash


What:     Two-vehicle crash

Where:   SD Highway 15 and 145th Street

                Four miles north of Milbank, S.D.

When:    3:30 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2018


Driver No. 1:  Arlo Hurley, 79, Big Stone City, S.D., Fatal

Passenger: Kathleen Hurley, 71, Big Stone City, S.D., Fatal

Vehicle: 2016 Chevrolet Equinox


Driver No. 2: Gerald Boerger, 82, Milbank, S.D.,  Fatal

Vehicle: 1994 Mack Ch600 Dump Truck


MILBANK, S.D.  – A third person has now died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred June 18, 2018 north of Milbank.


Gerald Boerger, 82, of Milbank, was driving a 1994 Mack Ch600 Dump Truck westbound on 145th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with South Dakota Highway 15. The truck collided in the intersection with a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox that was northbound on South Dakota Highway 15.


Boerger sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. He died Tuesday, July 3, 2018.


Both occupants of the Equinox had died at the scene of the crash. They were the driver, 79-year-old Arlo Hurley, and the passenger, 71-year-old Kathleen Hurley.


All three people were wearing seatbelts.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
