Names Released in Brown County Fatal Crash


What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  399th Avenue and 136th Street

               Nine miles southwest of Groton, S.D.

When:   8:10 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2018


Driver: Joshua Leonard, 22, Aberdeen, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passenger: Abigayle Grenz, 21, Ipswich, S.D., Life-Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2003 Acura MDX


GROTON, S.D. – An Aberdeen, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Monday night in a one-vehicle crash that occurred near Groton.


A 2003 Acura MDX was eastbound on 136th Street when the driver lost control shortly after crossing over 399th Avenue. The vehicle went into the south ditch, struck a driveway to a residence and rolled several times.


Both vehicle occupants, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected. The driver, 22-year-old Joshua Leonard, was pronounced dead at the scene.


The passenger was 21-year-old Abigayle Grenz of Ipswich, S.D. She was taken by ambulance to an Aberdeen hospital and later transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
