Fatal Crashes:

 

At 2:32 p.m., U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 5, 14 miles south of Cheyenne Crossing: A motorcycle was southbound on U.S. Highway 85 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle went off the road, into the west ditch and through the fence. The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

At 7:42 p.m., Maitland Road, three miles east of Deadwood: A side-by-side UTV was westbound on Maitland Road. The driver failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle rolled onto the passenger side. The male driver, 53, died en route to the hospital. The male passenger, 51, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts, but not helmets.

 

 

Saturday Injury Crashes:

 

At 10:55 a.m., Interstate 90, mile marker 32, Sturgis: A 2012 Ford F250 pickup and 2013 Jeep Rubicon were driving westbound on Interstate 90. The driver of the Jeep braked suddenly due to motorcycles ahead of him and he was rear-end by the pickup. The Jeep occupants, a 35-year-old male driver and a 40-year-old female passenger, received minor injuries. The male driver of the pickup, 55, was not injured. All three people involved were wearing seatbelts.

 

At 12:21 p.m., Interstate 90, mile marker 57, within Rapid City city limits: Two motorcycles were westbound on I-90. The first motorcycle attempted to change lanes from the passing lane to the right shoulder, cutting off the second motorcycle which was merging into traffic off the I-90 on-ramp.  The two motorcycles collided. The 48-year-old male driver of the first motorcycle received minor injuries and was cited. The male driver of the second vehicle, 24, was not injured. Both were wearing helmets.

 

At 1:01 p.m., South Dakota Highway 244, mile marker 34, two miles west of Keystone: A 2005 Chevy Cavalier was parked along the shoulder of the road and the driver tried to make a U-turn. The vehicle collided with an on-coming motorcycle. The motorcycle’s male driver, 58, was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious non-life threatening injures. The female driver of the vehicle, 61, was not injured and was cited.

 

At 3:30 p.m., Interstate 90, mile marker 31, Sturgis: Two motorcycles were eastbound when the first motorcycle tried to turn into a crossover. The second motorcycel collided with the first. Neither male driver was injured. The 41-year-old female passenger on the first motorcycle suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The two occupants on the first motorcycle were not wearing helmets; the driver of the second motorcycle was wearing a helmet. Both drivers were cited. .

 

At 4:14 p.m., U.S. Highway 385, mile marker 120, three miles south of Lead: A motorcycle was northbound on U.S. Highway 385 when the male driver, 50, lost control. The vehicle went into the east ditch and collided with several rocks. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

 

At 4:45 p.m. South Dakota Highway 34, mile marker 79, 45 miles east of Sturgis: A motorcycle was eastbound on South Dakota 34 when it left the roadway and went into the ditch. The male driver, 65, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing the helmet.
