At 9:15 a.m. Friday, U.S. Highway 16, mile marker 32, five miles north of Custer: A 2012 Nissan Xterra was eastbound on U.S. Highway 16 when it stopped to make a left-hand turn. The vehicle was rear-ended by an eastbound 2006 Jeep Wrangler.  Neither male driver was injured. The female passenger of the Jeep Wrangler, 19, suffered minor injuries. All three people involved were wearing seatbelts.

 

At 1:01 p.m. Friday, Interstate 90, mile marker 157, seven miles east of Kadoka: Two motorcycles were eastbound on Interstate 90 through a construction zone. The second motorcycle ran into the back of the first motorcycle. The 46-year-old male driver of the second motorcycle fell off and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The driver of a third motorcycle lost control while approaching the crash scene. The male driver of the third motorcycle also suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The male driver of the first motorcycle was not injured. None of the three drivers were wearing helmets.

 

At 4:01 p.m., Friday, U.S. Highway 16A, mile marker 50, six miles west of Keystone: One motorcycle was westbound on U.S. Highway 16A negotiating a turn when it came into contact with an eastbound motorcycle on U.S. Highway 16A. The collision caused the first motorcycle to cross the center line and crash into a third motorcycle. Neither driver of the first two motorcycles was injured. The third motorcycle’s two occupants, a 67-year-old male driver and a 60-year-old female passenger, both sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. None of the four people involved were wearing helmets.

 

At 5:30 p.m., Friday, South Dakota Highway 87, mile marker 76, four miles south of Hill City: A motorcycle was northbound on South Dakota Highway 87 when the female driver failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle went off the roadway, down an embankment and struck a tree stump. The driver, 48, suffered minor injuries. She was not wearing a helmet.

 

At 8:50 p.m., Friday, South Dakota Highway 34, mile marker 36, one quarter mile east of Sturgis: A motorcycle was on South Dakota Highway 34 when it struck a deer that had come out on the roadway. The male driver and female passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. Both occupants sustained minor injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet.

 

At 9:53 p.m., Friday, Interstate 90, mile marker 39, Tilford: A motorcycle was eastbound on I-90 when its rear tire blew out. The two motorcycle occupants were thrown from the motorcycle. Both the male driver, 70, and the female passenger, 58, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet.
