BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – Crews have been repairing culverts on Highway 85 from the junction of Kinghorn Road in Butte County, north to the junction of Old Highway 85 for the last two months. Replacement of the box culvert at Hay Creek is also underway.

During the box culvert replacement, traffic will be placed on a traffic diversion adjacent to the work site. The gravel diversion will be approximately 1/4 of a mile long.

Next week, crews will begin preparing the driving lanes and shoulders of Highway 85 for a new asphalt surface. This work will consist of milling the existing surface and reclaiming the shoulders. Asphalt resurfacing will also be done on Highway 85 through the City of Buffalo this fall.

In addition to the new asphalt resurfacing, crews will work on guardrail updates, rumble strips and the installation of new pavement markings.

During the milling and paving operations, traffic will be reduced to one lane and will be directed through the work zones with the use of flaggers and a pilot car.  Motorists can expect up to 15-minute delays.

The prime contractor on this $8.6 million project is Border States Paving, Inc. from Fargo, North Dakota.

The overall completion date for the project is July 19, 2019; however, the contractor is planning to complete the project this year.
