Pennington County Fatal Crash


What:    Motorcycle-Vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 385, mile marker 96

               15 miles north of Hill City, S.D.

When:    3:33 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018


Driver No 1: Male, 57, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2003 Kawasaki L Cruiser


Driver No. 2: Male, 75, Minor Injuries

Passenger: Female, 75, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2015 Chevrolet Equinox


HILL CITY, S.D. – One person died Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle-vehicle crash that occurred near Hill City.


The name of the deceased, along with the names of two others involved, are not being released by state officials pending notification of family members.


A 2003 Kawasaki L Cruiser motorcycle was southbound on U.S. Highway 385 when the male driver lost control as the vehicle went into the northbound lane. A northbound 2015 Chevrolet Equinox ran over the motorcycle and driver.


The 57-year-old motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.


Both the male driver and female passenger of the vehicle suffered minor injuries. The two occupants, each 75 years old, were wearing seatbelts.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
