Gregory County Fatal Crash


What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 281, mile marker One

               25 miles east of Bonesteel, S.D.

When:   1:52 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2018


Driver: Male, 32, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger: Male, 36, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2014 Volvo Semi-truck and trailer


BONESTEEL, S.D. – One person died and another was injured Friday afternoon in a crash involving a semi-truck and trailer near Bonesteel.


Names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


A 2014 Volvo semi-truck and trailer was northbound on U.S. Highway 281 when the driver lost control as the vehicle entered a curve. The semi-truck and trailer rolled into the west ditch.


The 36-year-old male passenger was thrown from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.


Sustaining serious non-life threatening injuries was the 32-year-old male driver. He was wearing a seatbelt and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Wagner. Charges are pending against the driver.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
