Minnehaha County Fatal Crash


What:     Two-vehicle crash

Where:   250th Street and 475th Avenue

                One-half mile east of Baltic, S.D.

When:    1:12 p.m., Monday, Oct. 8, 2018


Driver No. 1:  Male, 61, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 1993 Ford Ranger pickup


Driver No. 2:  Female, 16, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt


BALTIC, S.D.  – One person was killed and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon east of Baltic.


Names of the people involved are not being released pending notification of families. They were the only two people involved.


A 1993 Ford Ranger pickup was southbound on 475th Avenue. A 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt was northbound on 475th Avenue.  The pickup stopped at the intersection and then turned left in front of the Cobalt at the 250th Street intersection.  The two vehicles collided in the intersection.


The 61-year-old male driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.


Sustaining minor injuries was the other driver, a 16-year-old female. She was wearing a seatbelt and was transported by ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital. No charges are currently pending against her.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
