Names Released In Charles Mix County Fatal Crash


What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 46, mile marker 278

               Three miles east of Pickstown, S.D.

When:    11:19 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018


Driver: David Williams, Jr., 37, Rapid City, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Timothy Waswick, 26, Minot, N.D., Life-Threatening Injuries

                       Katie Heikkinen, 26, Beloit, WI, Life-Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2003 Ford F-150 Pickup


PICKSTOWN, S.D. – A Rapid City, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died in a one-vehicle crash east of Pickstown on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018. Two other people were seriously injured.


A 2003 Ford F-150 pickup was westbound on South Dakota Highway 46 when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, came back onto the roadway and eventually rolled. Both male occupants were ejected from the vehicle and the female occupant was partially ejected.


David Williams, Jr., 37, was the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


The two passengers, who are both 26 years old, each sustained life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital in Wagner. They are Timothy Waswick of Minot, N.D., and Katie Heikkinen of Beloit, WI.


None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
