What:    Two-vehicle crash

Where:  Interstate 229, mile marker 9

              In Sioux Falls, S.D., between Benson Road and Rice Street

When:   4:06 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019


Driver No. 1: Nikki Jones, 25, Sioux Falls, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier


Driver No. 2: Female, 65, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2010 Buick Lucerne


SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A Sioux Falls woman has been identified as the person who died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Falls.


A 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was northbound on Interstate 229 when it veered to the left, crossed the median and struck a southbound 2010 Buick Lucerne.


Pronounced dead at the scene was Nikki Jones, the 25-year-old driver of the Cavalier. She was not wearing a seatbelt.


The 65-year-old female driver of the Buick Lucerne had to be extricated. She was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt. The family has requested that her name not be released.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
