Pennington County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-vehicle crash

Where:  Interstate 90, mile marker 60

              Within Rapid City, S.D. city limits

When:    9:30 a.m., Jan. 25, 2019


Driver No. 1: Male, 53, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2017 Peterbilt TR Semi-Truck and Trailer


Driver No. 2: Female, 64, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo SUV


RAPID CITY, S.D. - One person died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Rapid City.

Names of the deceased and the other person involved in the crash are not being released pending notification of family members.


A 2017 Peterbilt TR semi-truck, pulling a trailer, was westbound on Interstate 90 when it left the roadway near mile marker 60. The truck and trailer crossed into the oncoming eastbound traffic and collided with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo SUV. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound off ramp.


Pronounced dead at the scene was the 64-year-old female driver of the SUV. She was wearing a seatbelt.


The 53-year-old male driver of the semi truck was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene. Charges are pending against him.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
