Hughes County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 14, mile marker 253

              One mile east of Blunt, S.D.

When:   1:44 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2019


Driver No. 1: Male, 59, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 Kenworth W900 semi-truck tractor trailer


Driver No. 2: Female, 55, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2016 Jeep Compass


BLUNT, S.D. – One person died in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon east of Blunt.


The names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


A 2016 Jeep Compass was eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 when it drifted into the path of a westbound 2012 Kenworth W900 semi-truck tractor trailer. The two vehicles collided.


Pronounced dead at the scene was the 55-year-female driver of the Jeep Compass. The male driver of the semi-truck, 59 years old, received minor injuries and was transferred by ambulance to the Pierre hospital. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
