Construction on Highway 34 in Madison

MADISON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the construction of Highway 34 from 2nd Street NE south to the start of the divided highway on 10th Street SE in Madison will start Monday, April 1.

 

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in the northbound lanes from 2nd Street NE to 4th Street SE. East/West vehicle traffic will be maintained at 10th Street SE throughout construction. East/West pedestrian traffic will be maintained at the 4th Street SE and 10th Street SE intersections throughout construction.

 

The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph and a 10-foot width restriction will be in place on Highway 34 from 2nd Street NE south to the start of the divided highway on 10th Street SE. Over-width vehicles and through traffic will be detoured using the Highway 34 bypass.

 

D & G Concrete Construction of Sioux Falls is the prime contractor on this $7.9 million project.

 

The substantial completion date is Nov. 29, 2019, and the overall completion date is August 2020.
