Contact:  Greg Aalberg, Engineering Supervisor, 605-367-5680

MADISON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says that the southbound lane of Highway 34 will be closed from 2nd Street NE to 4th Street SE starting Friday, June 21.

Traffic is currently reduced to one lane in each direction starting with the northbound lanes of Highway 34 from 2nd Street NE to 4th Street SE in Madison and in the southbound lanes from 4th Street SE to 10th Street SE. Southbound traffic will be closed from 2nd Street NE to 4th Street SE. Southbound traffic will be detoured using 2nd Street NW, Highland Avenue and 10th Street.

This closure is necessary due to concerns recently identified by BNSF and is for the safety of the traveling public with rail crossing requirements.

The substantial completion date is Nov. 29, 2019, and the overall completion date is Aug. 2020.

The prime contractor on this $7.9 million project is D&G Concrete Construction of Sioux Falls.
