Campus and Community Representatives to Participate
in BHSU Presidential Search

 

PIERRE, S.D. – A group of 13 people will assist the South Dakota Board of Regents in its search for the next president of Black Hills State University, serving as campus and community representatives on the presidential search and screen committee.

 

“The input we receive from these campus and community leaders greatly benefits and informs our presidential search process,” said Regent Joan Wink, who will chair the search at Black Hills State. Other regents serving on the search committee are John Bastian and Jim Thares, with Regents President Kevin Schieffer serving in an ex-officio capacity.

 

Named as campus and community representatives and the constituencies they represent are:

 

  • Community-Kay Jorgensen, Spearfish, owner of KSJ Enterprises
  • BHSU Foundation-Kathryn Johnson, Hill City, environmental consultant
  • Yellow Jacket Foundation-Susan Peterson, Belle Fourche, co-owner of Scott Peterson Motors
  • Alumni-Sharon Hemmingson, Spearfish, business services and contracts manager, South Dakota Science and Technology Authority at the Sanford Underground Research Facility
  • Administration-Steve Meeker, vice president of university advancement
  • Civil Service Employees-Garrett Stevens, systems software specialist
  • Non-Faculty Exempt Employees-Debbie Liddick, assistant director of facilities and sustainability
  • Faculty-Laura Colmenero-Chilberg, professor of sociology; Katrina Jensen, associate professor of chemistry
  • Students-Hannah Neumiller, junior chemistry major; Keegan Baatz, sophomore photography major
  • Institutional Collaboration-Tim Downs, president of Northern State University
  • At-Large Representative-Harvey Krautschun, Spearfish, president/owner of Financial Benefits Inc.

 

The next president will succeed Tom Jackson Jr., who was appointed in July as president of Humboldt State University in California. Dr. Laurie Stenberg Nichols is serving as interim BHSU president during the 2019-20 academic year.
