Contact: Steve Wiege, 605-394-2248

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  The South Dakota Department of Transportation says rock scaling on Highway 44 between Chapel Lane and Cleghorn Canyon Road will begin Tuesday Sept. 17, at 8 a.m. depending on weather.

Work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 20.

Work involves removing loose rock (scaling) from slopes along Highway 44. This is being done to improve safety for motorists through the area.

Traffic will be stopped intermittently in both directions by flaggers. Delays up to 15 minutes can be expected throughout each day’s work.

The prime contractor on this $163,607 project is CAN USA, Inc. of Hackensack, New Jersey.
