Student Groups from DSU and NSU Recognized for Excellence

MADISON, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents recognized student organizations from Dakota State University and Northern State University for excellence in academic, community, and organizational work.

Dakota State student groups receiving the special regents’ awards were:

  • Award for Academic Excellence Phi Beta Lambda Business Club brings business and education interests together to create innovative leadership and career development programs. Members build skills in leadership, teamwork, networking, and project management. The club encourages participation in state and national PBL leadership conferences, where members participate in competitive events that put classroom lessons into practice.

  • Community Service Award The Alliance promotes a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, staff, and community. Members are engaged in building a visible support and ally network on campus and throughout the local community. The group hosts weekly meetings and special events for students and the Madison community.

  • Award for Organizational Leadership CybHER is a network of support and resources for women who aspire to work in the technology industry. The focus is on outreach and local meetings. Last year, more than 2,000 students were impacted through the outreach events. Group meetings are dedicated to learning new technologies and brainstorming individual projects.

Northern State student groups receiving the special regents’ awards were:

  • Award for Academic Excellence Honors Club includes all students who are part of the NSU Honors Program. Club members are engaged in activities such as National Collegiate Honors Conference, Common Read, Student-Faculty Quiz Bowl, Junior Science Bowl, and leading “how-to” sessions hosted by honors students and their advisers.

  • Community Service Award – The Environmental Club brings eco-friendly awareness to the NSU campus and Aberdeen community while engaging students in environmental activities. The group has built and donated bird houses, conducted three roadside clean-up events, collected wild seeds for reseeding at Sand Lake Wildlife Refuge, and created the recycling program implemented in all buildings on campus.

  • Award for Organizational Leadership – The student-run campus newspaper, The Exponent, allows students to explore careers in all aspects of journalism. Its staff of 12 writers, editors, photographers, and artists publishes the newspaper biweekly. Since 1905, The Exponent has been the primary source for student news on the Northern State campus.
