Move More . . . Outdoors latest Healthy South Dakota challenge
PIERRE, S.D.If you’re interested in being more active now that the long winter is finally over, the latest online challenge from the Healthy South Dakota Initiative can help. The Move More. . . Outdoors challenge runs May 14 through June 30 and is intended to help participants become more active by tracking their minutes of physical activity.
“Here in South Dakota we’re lucky to have such a great variety of state and city parks and trails that offer all kinds of wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities,” said Kristin Biskeborn, State Nutritionist for the Department of Health. “We hope this challenge will encourage South Dakotans to get active and explore their state at the same time.”
Registration for the challenge is open now at www.HealthySD.gov and people can join as individuals or participate in teams. When the challenge gets under way on May 14, the site will also include on online log for participants to enter their minutes of physical activity.
As an incentive, each person who participates in the challenge will receive a Healthy South Dakota pedometer. At the end of the challenge, 10 randomly selected participants will also receive a heart monitor.
Biskeborn also encouraged South Dakotans to be watching www.HealthySD.gov for news of Healthy South Dakota’s Get Your Tail on the Trail program coming in May.
The Healthy South Dakota website and its regular challenges are part of the department’s Health 2020 objective to help South Dakotans be physically active, eat healthy, and live healthier lives.
