Gov. Rounds Accepts Press Secretary’s Resignation

PIERRE, S.D.Gov. Mike Rounds announced today with regret, that Press Secretary Mitch Krebs is ending his tenure in state government. Krebs has accepted a position with Avera McKennan.

“Mitch has done an outstanding job as head of our media relations,” said Gov. Rounds. “He has also been a valuable advisor and a trusted friend. We will certainly miss him, but we are pleased that Mitch will continue to be a leader in South Dakota in this new opportunity.”

Krebs will serve as Assistant Vice President of Media and Community Relations for Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center—an integrated health care delivery network serving 115 locations in 62 communities based in Sioux Falls.

“Everyone at Avera McKennan is excited for Mitch to join our team,” said Michelle M. Lavallee, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Strategic Planning for Avera McKennan.   “We’ve known and worked with Mitch for some time through the Governor’s Office and when he was an anchor at KSFY.”

Krebs has been serving as Press Secretary for Gov. Rounds since February 2007.

“It’s been an honor working for Gov. Rounds and his top-notch staff and cabinet,” said Krebs. “Being a small part of the lasting legacy that Gov. Rounds will have on South Dakota is something I’ll always be proud of.”

Krebs will be moving back to the Sioux Falls area with his wife, Shantel. Krebs’s last day as Press Secretary has not been finalized.
