GFP Commission Proposes Fishing Changes
PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission proposed the following fishing regulation changes during their October meeting:
- Define the term “snaghook” and use this term in the definition of snagging.
- Clarify the definition of “inland” waters.
- Add a rule specifying artificial lights may be used while fishing with legal methods.
- Allow for the harvest of silver and bighead carp that inadvertently jump into a boat or are netted from the air using a dip net. This proposal would allow anglers the opportunity to harvest those fish.
The GFP Commission will finalize these proposals Nov. 6-7 at the Ramada Inn in Sioux Falls. To view these rule proposals in their entirety, please visit https://gfp.sd.gov/agency/commission/default.aspx. Written comments on these proposals can be sent to 523 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501, or emailed to wildinfo@state.sd.us. To be included in the public record, comments must be received by 12 p.m. CDT on Nov. 6 and have your full name and city of residence.
