Saturday-Wednesday, June 14-18, Philadelphia, Penn. – Tim Binder, Office of Tourism, will attend the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) 2008 Annual Conference with over 300 of the world’s travel and tourism researchers, marketers, and planners. The conference is vital for all travel and tourism researchers to stay current on best practices, learn new and innovative research methodologies, and how best to successfully convert research findings into more visitors to South Dakota. Sunday-Thursday, June 15-19, Sioux Falls - 82nd Civil Support Team and Sioux Falls Fire Department Joint Exercise Training - The 82nd Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction), Rapid City, and the Sioux Falls Fire Department will be conducting joint training exercises at various locations in and around the Sioux Falls area. Sunday-Monday, June 15-23, Statewide - Maureen Droz and Vicky Engelhaupt, South Dakota Office of Tourism, will host Mr. Tiziano Cantatore and Mr. Claudio Falanga, journalists from Mototurismo, Italy, on a press trip to the Black Hills area of South Dakota. Mototurismo (circulation 100,000) is the only Italian magazine that focuses on touring by motorcycle as well as the technical aspects of motorcycles. While in South Dakota, Mr. Cantatore and Mr. Falanga will be riding many scenic routes and visiting with other motorcyclists to gather information for their articles.
Monday, June 16, Camp Guernsey, Wyo., 8 a.m. (MDT) - Golden Coyote Multiple-Launch Rocket System Live Fire - The 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery will be conducting a multiple-launch rocket system live fire exercise during Golden Coyote 2008, Camp Guernsey, Wyo. Tuesday, June 17, Pierre, 10 a.m. (CDT) – The Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council will hold a meeting and public hearing in the Kneip Building, Conference Room #3, located at 700 Governors Drive. Wednesday, June 18, Sioux Falls, 9 a.m. (CDT) – The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Task Force, appointed by Gov. Rounds to examine the state’s educational services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and to make recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of those services, holds its second meeting. The task force will discuss short-term recommendations for the upcoming school year and review informational items requested at the last meeting. Wednesday, June 18, Digital Dakota Network & Teleconference, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. (CDT) - The Council of Juvenile Services meets via the Dakota Digital Network, with meeting sites in Aberdeen, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Watertown, Selby and Yankton. The Council oversees the state's compliance with the Juvenile Justice Delinquency and Prevention Act. Wednesday, June 18, Rapid City, 4 p.m. (MDT)- Golden Coyote Leader's Call- The South Dakota National Guard will host an end of exercise leadership program to recognize and thank all participants in the 2008 Golden Coyote training exercise at the Coyote Den on Camp Rapid. This is an opportunity for media to visit with various units from across the nation and discuss the success and challenges in the exercise.

Friday, June 20, Pierre, 11 a.m. (CDT) – The state of South Dakota will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the laying of the Capitol cornerstone in a ceremony at the Southwest corner of the Capitol. The ceremony will duplicate, as closely as possible, the ceremony which laid the cornerstone. Participating will be Gov. Rounds and the officers of the Grand Lodge of Masons of South Dakota. The event will also include the premier of SDPB's first locally produced high definition movie "Our Statehouse: A Capitol Idea" which will be shown at 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol rotunda.
