A Watertown, SD., man, and a Florence, SD. woman have been identified as the individuals who died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash east of Florence, SD.

Where:  South Dakota Highway 20, mile marker 389

              2 miles east of Florence

When:   3:09 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2023

Driver  No. 1: Andy York, Watertown, SD., 49, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 GMC Yukon

Driver  No. 2: Kathryn Asfeld, Florence, SD., 82, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 GMC Acadia

Codington County, SD: Two people died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash east of Florence, SD.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2005 GMC Yukon was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 20 when it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane, colliding with the 2012 GMC Acadia. 

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
