Highway 48 Near Iowa Border Open to Traffic

PIERRE, S.D. - South Dakota Department of Transportation officials say SD Highway 48 west of Akron, Iowa, is open to traffic.

The highway was closed from the Iowa border one mile into South Dakota during spring flooding. The highway was re-opened on Friday.

The only state highway that remains closed because of flooding is a segment of SD 44 at the James River east of Parkston.

Numerous county and township roads are closed. Motorists are urged to use caution when approaching areas where water is flowing adjacent to or over a road. Do not attempt to drive through water covering the road, as it may be washed out underneath. Turn around. Don’t risk drowning.
