KIDS, ENTER THE 2003 STATE-FISH ART CONTEST

PIERRE – How can kids win great prizes, be featured online, get published nationally and learn more about their state's fish and conservation efforts? By entering Wildlife Forever’s 2003 State-Fish Art Contest!

"This is a fabulous, educational connection tool where teachers can combine art, writing and science into one activity for their students," said Chad Tussing, education services coordinator for the Department of Game, Fish and Parks.

"Students can also learn more about South Dakota's state fish, which should provide young anglers with a greater understanding of the walleye’s life history," said Fisheries Administrator Dennis Unkenholz. "Hopefully, this learning will translate into more informed and successful anglers."

Entries are due March 31, 2003. The winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2003 and will be displayed at the Annual State-Fish Art Expo at the Mall of America in Minneapolis from June 6-8, 2003.

Entries will be categorized by grade level: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Three winners from each state will be selected and invited to the Mall of America in Minneapolis to participate in a four-day State-Fish Art Expo. The expo will include an artist's workshop, fishing clinics and an awards banquet. Winning entries will be showcased on America Online and in the North American Fisherman magazine.
