Tree Thinning Funds Available to Private Landowners
(Pierre, SD)---Private landowners interested in thinning forested areas may be eligible for partial cost-share payments.
Thinning aimed at promoting the growth of young trees, and treating dead woody material may qualify for this cost-share program. Applications will be accepted until March 13, 2009.
Cost-share funding will be provided through a federal grant from the USDA Forest Service - State & Private Forestry Program provided to the South Dakota Department of Agriculture. Additional funding has been provided by the State Conservation Commission through the South Dakota Coordinated Soil and Water Conservation Fund.
The department and conservation districts will give special consideration to projects in close proximity to vegetative treatment projects on federal lands.
