Pennington County Fatal Crash
What: Two-motorcycle fatal crash
Where: US Highway 44, mile marker 33, one mile east of Johnson Siding
When: Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, 5:04 p.m.
Driver 1: Terry Hislop, 47, Rapid City, SD, fatal
Passenger 1: Cheryl Daigle, 35, Rapid City, SD, life-threatening injuries
Vehicle 1: 1998 Harley Davidson
Driver 2: Christopher Gabbard, 29, Rapid City, SD, serious non-life threatening injuries
Vehicle 2: 2004 Harley Davidson
JOHNSON SIDING, S.D. – A Rapid City man died Saturday, Oct. 20 died and two other people were injured in a crash involving two motorcycles on U.S. Highway 44 about a mile east of Johnson Siding.
Terry Hislop, 47, was eastbound driving a 1998 Harley Davidson and swerved to miss a deer while entering a curve. The motorcycle hit a guardrail. Both Hislop and a passenger, Cheryl Daigle, 35, of Rapid City, were thrown from the bike. Hislop died at the scene. Daigle received life-threatening injuries.
Christopher Gabbard, 29, of Rapid City, was following the first motorcycle. He was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson. When he saw the crash of Hislop’s motorcycle, he braked and put his bike on its side. He received serious but non-life threatening injuries.
No further information is immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Fire and Rescue and Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
