Four Compete for Title of Miss South Dakota State Fair
The South Dakota State Fair will kick off on Saturday, September 4 with the crowning of a new Miss South Dakota State Fair. The pageant will take place at 2 pm on the Freedom Stage.
Four young ladies will be competing for the title of Miss South Dakota State Fair and $2500 in scholarship money.
The contestants include Emily Anne Miller from Irene, Callee Bauman from Huron, Mary Jo Newman from Valley Springs and Emily Jo Kerr from Highmore.
“Contestants will compete in four competitions including evening gown, talent, physical fitness and interview,” said Brenda Dreyer, director of the program. “I encourage everyone to stop out on Saturday to see some great local talent.”
Elizabeth Pajl from Yankton is the reigning Miss South Dakota State Fair.
Special guest at this years pageant is “Dominant 7” from Aberdeen, S.D. The "Dominant 7" is a trumpet and rhythm section musical group made up of music students from Northern State University.
The group began as a combo put together by Dr. Grant Manhart for the Elkhart Indiana Jazz Fest in 1999. Since then the group has played the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Fest and the first Aberdeen Summer Jam, as well as several public and private functions in the region. The group has been invited back to both jazzfests for next summer.
