WINNERS NAMED IN GOVERNOR’S ORNAMENT CONTEST

The second annual Governor’s Old-Fashioned Ornament Contest, held Dec. 8-9, at Fort Sisseton’s Frontier Christmas, captured the beauty of Christmas past and South Dakota’s rich heritage.

Larissa Swanson of Aberdeen took top honors in the children’s division for her ornament entry. Julie Bohlander of Britton took first place in the adults’ division. Both received $500 from the South Dakota Department of Tourism. Second-place prizes went to Watertown natives Hannah Hansen in the children’s division and Katie Hansen in the adults’ division. They each received $100.

Corey Zirbel of Ortley took third place and Derek Sherard of Parker took fourth place in the children’s division. Terry Price and Sandy Brantsveen of Britton were third- and fourth-place winners in the adults’ division. Each of these winners received a South Dakota backpack.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism and Fort Sisseton State Park, coordinators of the contest, plan to place the ornaments from this year’s contest on a special tree at the Capitol Christmas display in Pierre in 2002.
