Construction on US Highway 83 Expressway Progressing
PIERRE – Construction of the US Highway 83 Expressway between Interstate 90 and Fort Pierre has progressed to the point where traffic will be impacted starting next week.
Work on the southern segment of the expressway, from I-90 north approximately one mile, has moved far enough along that motorists will feel the effects starting the week of September 9. Traffic will be maintained on a gravel surface on the east side of the existing highway while asphalt is milled and removed from the old road and the new roadbed is prepared for concrete pavement.
The 31.5-mile long expressway project will be constructed in three segments. Grading work on the southern segment, which started about two weeks ago, will continue to the north. This portion of the expressway is scheduled for completion by July of 2003.
Access will be provided at intersections and private driveway connections throughout the project during construction.
