Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs announces tribute to Korean War Veterans

PIERRE – Maj. Gen. Mike Gorman, the Secretary for the Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs announced today that a special tribute to Korean War Veterans is planned for Sunday, July 27, 2003 at the State Fairgrounds in Huron, SD.

“It is important that we recognize the contributions of South Dakota Korean War Veterans on the 50th anniversary of the armistice signed at Panmunjom,” said Maj. Gen. Gorman on the announcement.

The day’s events are as follows:

·        11 a.m. - ecumenical religious service, 

·        11:30: A lunch will be provided by the state veteran’s service organizations.  

·        12:30 p.m. - A program on the Freedom Stage featuring an address by Maj. Gen. Mike Gorman, Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard.  

·        At 1:15 a 21-gun salute and taps will be followed by a musical tribute by the South Dakota National Guard’s 147th Army Band.
