FAMILY FUN OFFERED AT FRONTIER DAYS
The diverse aspects of South Dakota’s culture are showcased during the 90th anniversary of Frontier Days Aug. 16–18 in White River. The three days of activities will feature powwows, the work of South Dakota artists, four-wheel-drive mud races, and a sanctioned rodeo including bull riding, mutton bustin’ and a wild horse race.
Two free powwows will be performed at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 17, at the powwow grounds along Highway 83. A wagon train will finish a five-day trek by joining a parade at 11 a.m. Saturday. An arts festival will be held north of the rodeo grounds featuring South Dakota artists from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A rodeo at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday is $7 for adults and $3 for children. The Zuya Sica (wicked war) Mud Races will begin immediately following the rodeo performances Saturday and Sunday. Each evening will end with dances from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
