PIERRE, S.D. – The bulls are coming to Presho May 20-21 for the New Frontier Bull Ride. Following them are some of the top bull riders in the area.
The eighth annual New Frontier Bull Ride kicks off Friday evening with a Match of Future Champions showcasing up-and-coming bull riders from a seven state area. Seasoned veterans from the Northern Bull Riding Tour take their turn at an eight second ride, competing for more than $4,000 in added prize money. After the bull ride, Dustin Evans and the Good Times Band entertains the crowd. Saturday’s festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a Junior Jackpot Bull Ride for area riders 9 to 13 years old. At 5 p.m. there’s a western barbecue and a show by long-time rodeo clown and barrelman Duane Reichert. Then it’s riding time as the Northern Tour Bull Ride competition continues to the finals. Dustin Evans and the Good Times Band perform again Saturday night.
World-champion bullfighter Jerry Norton and local veteran Beaver Scott provide protection to the cowboys and entertain the audience. Rodeo clown and barrelman Duane Reichert provides a variety of comedy and talent. Kid’s events include a calf scramble, mutton bustin’ and candy scramble.
“This is a perfect opportunity to kick off the summer travel and rodeo season,” said Neal Brakke, New Frontier Bull Ride organizer. “Top-notch bull riders from across the country converge in Presho to compete, and the crowd will not be disappointed. There will be plenty of excitement for all ages.”
All festivities take place at the New Frontier RV Park in Presho, Interstate 90, exits 225 and 226. Admission is $10 in advance or $12 for adults and $6 for teens (13-17 years old) at the gate.
