PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Economic Development approved funding for four projects through the SD Works, Economic Development Partnership, and Local Infrastructure Improvement programs. The projects support small business growth, job creation, economic development training and infrastructure improvements across South Dakota.

“South Dakota’s strong economy starts with businesses and communities willing to invest in their future,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “These projects are creating opportunities, strengthening our communities, and ensuring South Dakota remains Open for Opportunity.”

The board approved a $597,275 SD Works loan for IR, LLC to support construction of a new brick-and-mortar location for Rev It Up Espresso in Sturgis. The new facility will allow the locally owned coffee business to expand from its kiosk operations into a permanent storefront with a sit-down café, drive-thru service, on-site coffee roasting, and an expanded food and merchandise offering.

Rev It Up Espresso began in an 8-by-12-foot trailer and has since grown to three kiosks throughout Sturgis. The new location will provide additional space for the growing business while creating a community gathering space.

The board also approved a $320,000 SD Works loan for JBHM, LLC to support construction of a new facility for Elwood Family Dental Care in Yankton. The expansion will allow the practice to add a second dentist, operate five days per week, and increase access to dental services in the community. The project is expected to grow the practice from eight to 16 full-time equivalent positions.

A $10,000 Economic Development Partnership Program grant was awarded to Sioux Metro Growth Alliance to support its Leadership Sioux Metro Regional Economic Development Training Initiative. The program will provide training in areas including business retention and attraction, site readiness, housing and development, workforce, development finance, and regional collaboration.

The board further approved a $500,000 Local Infrastructure Improvement Program grant for Clear Lake Area Development to support construction of a water tank and pump station. The infrastructure will strengthen the water system serving the Clear Lake community and provide the water supply and fire protection necessary to support the Tech Ord expansion.

Tech Ord currently employs 177 people in Clear Lake and plays a key role in South Dakota’s growing national security industry. Earlier this year, Governor Rhoden joined company and community leaders to break ground on the expansion, which is expected to create an additional 35 positions over the next five years.

It takes strong businesses, skilled people, prepared communities and the infrastructure to support growth,” said GOED Commissioner Bill Even. “These investments demonstrate how our economic development tools can work together to help local businesses grow, build capacity in our communities, and support major employers investing in South Dakota.”

The SD Works, Economic Development Partnership, and Local Infrastructure Improvement programs provide financing and grants that support business growth, economic development capacity, and infrastructure investments across South Dakota. Available to qualifying businesses and organizations that meet program requirements established in state law and board policy, these tools encourage investment that expands economic opportunity and supports long-term growth across the state.
