South Dakota State Fair Announces the Steve Miller Band
HURON, S.D. – South Dakota State Fair officials are happy to announce the addition of the Steve Miller Band to the 2012 South Dakota State Fair Grandstand lineup. The Steve Miller Band will perform on Saturday, Sept. 1.
The Steve Miller Band is widely known as one of rock music’s all time greats. In 1973, after years of trying to make it in the music industry, they recorded the album “The Joker” in just 19 days. It exceeded all their expectations as it shot right to the top of the music charts.
After a year-long tour, Miller took a year and a half off to write, record and perfect the music for his next two albums. The next two albums “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Book of Dreams” kept him in the Top Ten music charts for the next two years.
The album “Greatest Hits 1974-78” became one of the top-selling releases of all time, selling over 13 million copies since its debut in 1978. In May of 2010, “Bingo!” was released by the Steve Miller Band and was the No. 1 blues album. The most recent album is “Let Your Hair Down.”
Steve Miller hits include recognizable songs “The Joker”, “Jet Airliner”, “Take the Money and Run”, and “Fly Like An Eagle”.
“The Steve Miller Band is guaranteed to be a great show. A great classic rock show like this is bound to fill up the stands,” said Jerome Hertel, South Dakota State Fair manager.
A pre-sale of tickets will begin June 18 for backrest holders, followed by Friends of the Fair ticket sales on June 20. General public ticket sales will begin on June 25. Ticket prices will be announced at the end of February.
The 2012 South Dakota State Fair will run from Thursday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 3. Channel Seeds Preview night will be Wednesday, Aug. 29. For more information on State Fair events, contact the Fair office at 800-529-0900, visit www.sdstatefair.com or find it on Facebook and Twitter.
