Saturday, January 9, Rapid City, 5 p.m. (MST) - Captain Daniel Janssen, Sturgis, S.D., will be publicly honored for his service to the nation at a National Guard Freedom Salute Ceremony at Bldg. 450 on Camp Rapid. The public is encouraged to attend. Janssen, a physician assistant with the South Dakota Army National Guard's Medical Command, returned to Rapid City Nov. 9 after spending six months in Afghanistan with the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Georgia Army National Guard. Janssen volunteered for the deployment.
The National Guard Freedom Salute Campaign is a dedication to the Soldiers, family members, and employers of units deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Noble Eagle and peacekeeping operations across the globe. On behalf of the National Guard, each eligible Soldier is presented with an encased American flag, a sequentially numbered commemorative coin, a certificate of appreciation and a lapel insignia. For more information, contact Maj. Sunday, January 10, Rapid City, 9 a.m. (MST) - The South Dakota Army National Guard (SDARNG) will honor Lt. Col. James Peterson of Hill City, as he passes the responsibilities of Training Site Command commander to Lt. Col. Daniel J. Iverson of Heron Lake, Minn., at a change of command ceremony at Bldg. 450 on Camp Rapid. The public is encouraged to attend. Peterson has commanded the TSC for the past two years. The TSC's new commander, Lt. Col. Iverson, has spent more than nine years as a member of Joint Force Headquarters, branch chief collective training. He also works full-time as the Golden Coyote exercise coordinator for the SDARNG. For more information, contact Maj.
