LEAD, S.D. – A Kennewick, WA man, identified as Donald Restad, died Thursday in a motorcycle crash 15 miles south of Lead.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Restad, 69, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 85 when he failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the roadway. The Patrol says Restad's 2004 Honda VTX1300 went off the roadway and into the west ditch. The motorcycle climbed a rock embankment, collided with a road sign and came to a final rest at the bottom of the embankment in the west ditch.

Restad, who was wearing a helmet, died as a result of his injuries. The crash was reported at 10:24 a.m. Thursday.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate. Speed was a contributing factor.
