Gov. Daugaard Appoints Chuck Jones To District 8 Senate Seat

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that he will appoint Chuck Jones of Flandreau to the South Dakota State Senate. Jones will represent District 8, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Sen. Russell Olson.

“Chuck Jones will be a great state senator,” said Gov. Daugaard. “He has been a leader in his community and, as a veteran, he understands the importance of public service.”

Jones is the general manager of Royal River Casino in Flandreau. From 2007 to 2011, he served as the city administrator for the City of Flandreau. Jones is a veteran of the United States Army and served overseas during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. He also served in the Minnesota and Iowa Army National Guard from 1991 to 2001 and the U.S. Army Reserve from 2001 to 2012.

“I am truly humbled by the trust and confidence the Governor has placed in me and I look forward to working with my fellow legislators and the people of District 8 as we enter this next legislative session,” said Jones. “Throughout my public career I have served the public as a military officer, city councilman and city administrator and now I am looking forward to representing the people of District 8 in the state Senate.”

Jones was born and raised in Flandreau and is an enrolled member of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University and earned his masters of business administration from Colorado Technical University.

Jones and his wife, Melissa, have two children, Gabe and Madilyn. He has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Shriners, and is a past board member of the Moody County Boys and Girls Club.

District 8 includes Lake, Miner, Moody and Sanborn counties.
