PIERRE, S.D. – Seven new South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper recruits officially graduate this Friday, Feb. 17, during a ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda.

“This is a graduation ceremony in the truest sense because we are honoring the recruits for their hard work and commitment,” said Col. Rick Miller, superintendent of the Highway Patrol. “It takes almost a year from application through graduation. This is not an easy process, and they have earned the right to be a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper.”

Class 68 recruits and their duty stations are:

*** Trooper Parker Bailey, Sioux Falls
*** Trooper Joe Curtin, Lead
*** Trooper Randall Douvier,  Pierre
*** Trooper Bo Fisher, Rapid City
*** Trooper Jordan High Elk, Plankinton
*** Trooper Ashley Hohn, Watertown
*** Trooper Jack Richardson, Pierre

Graduation ceremonies for Class 68 start at 10 a.m. Friday. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Highway Patrol’s Facebook page.

Some of the new troopers were already certified law enforcement officers and have been working in the field on their own since late last year. The recruits will receive their patrol vehicles today (Thursday), the day before graduation.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
