Dakota State University MBA Goes Online

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The master of business administration degree from Dakota State University will soon be delivered entirely online, to benefit the region’s full-time employed professionals who are a primary audience for the degree.

Dakota State currently delivers the MBA program face to face at University Center-Sioux Falls, with some courses offered in a hybrid setting where students meet weekly with an instructor and then complete assignments by electronic delivery. With approval from the South Dakota Board of Regents today, the change in delivery method is effective for the fall semester starting later this month.

University officials said moving the program to Internet delivery will provide greater access to students outside of the immediate Sioux Falls area, and also help meet a growing demand for business professionals with graduate degrees across South Dakota.

In other action, the Board of Regents also approved new undergraduate minors at Dakota State University, each requiring 18 credit hours of study. No new state resources were needed to implement any of these minors, since the coursework is already offered for existing programs. The new minors at DSU are:

  • Production animation 2-D and production animation 3-D. These two minors equip students with the skills to produce professional-quality animation/motion graphics for digital arts and design industry applications. The university already offers a major in digital arts and design.
  • Web development. As more business applications are being moved to a web-based environment, this minor aims to improve the web development skills of students who complete degrees in computer science, computer information systems, and computer game design.
  • English for new media. This minor is aimed at students who may require more developed skills in writing, editing, and publishing. It is intended to help improve the marketability of students who complete business and digital arts/design degrees at DSU.
