Lane Closures Scheduled on U.S. Highway 18 and S.D. Highway 407 Reconstruction Project in Pine Ridge
PINE RIDGE, S.D. – The reconstruction project is underway on U.S. Highway 18 and S.D. Highway 407 in Pine Ridge. Project work will consist of urban grading, curb and gutter, storm sewer, roadway lighting, asphalt and concrete paving, ADA upgrades, and traffic signals.
Traffic lane closures are scheduled to begin on Monday, April 14, 2025, for the north and south section of Highway 18 and Highway 407 from Cherry Hill Court to Whitetail Deer Road. The southbound lanes will be closed. Two-way traffic will be maintained in the northbound lanes.
Traffic lane closures are also scheduled to begin on Monday, April 14, 2025, on Highway 18 from East Ridge Road to Indian Health Road. The westbound lanes will be closed to traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the eastbound lanes of Highway 18.
During the lane closures, a 10-foot width restriction for through traffic will be in effect on Highway 18 and Highway 407. The contractor had started minor tree and shrub clearing and removal. Fence removal will also be completed throughout the west side of the project along north Highway 18 and Highway 407.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe has a water main/sanitary sewer project that will begin in the same construction work area. The work will initially be off the roadway to the west of north Highway 18 and Highway 407.
The prime contractor on this $19.3 million project is Paul Reed Construction & Supply, Inc. from Gering, NE. The overall project completion date is October 2026.
