Rockfall Mitigation Project Scheduled to Begin on U.S. Highway 14A in Spearfish Canyon

SPEARFISH, S.D. – On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, crews will begin a rockfall mitigation project on U.S. Highway 14A in Spearfish Canyon. The project area is located approximately one-half mile south of Victoria or three and one-half miles north of Savoy. Rockfall mitigation operations will take place daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., including weekends. This project is being conducted to help mitigate future rockslides in Spearfish Canyon.

For the safety of workers and the traveling public, traffic will be stopped in both directions during active scaling operations. Motorists should expect intermittent delays up to 30 minutes while active operations are in progress each day.

The prime contractor on this $75,000 project is CAN USA, Inc. from Hackensack, NJ. The project completion date is Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
