PIERRE, S.D. — After spending $2.8 million and doubling in size, officials at Enertech of Mitchell have reason to celebrate. The Illinois-headquartered company recently completed its 20,000 square foot addition on the former Hydron Module facility, according to Secretary Richard Benda, Department of Tourism and State Development.
Enertech, which purchased Hydron Module in late 2007, manufactures and distributes geothermal heating and cooling systems. In addition to retaining the 21 existing positions, the company plans to add 30 jobs in the Mitchell area.
“Anytime you are dealing with a merger or acquisition of a company, there is always a level of uncertainty,” Benda said. “We were obviously extremely pleased when Enertech made the decision to keep the Hydron Mobile facility operational in South Dakota.”
When the former owners of Hydron Module decided to refocus their professional energy elsewhere, they were approached by Enertech, Inc. officials and Enertech Manufacturing, LLC was created.
“With energy costs where they are going, we see all geothermal companies growing at an expediential rate. When someone puts a geothermal system in their home, it will provide heating and cooling for a fraction of the cost of traditional sources,” said Steve Smith, managing partner of Enertech Manufacturing, LLC.
“Enertech is just the kind of company that we would like to see doing business in South Dakota,” Benda said. “Geothermal systems are becoming a big part of the renewable energy picture. When you talk about green, this is it.”
