　Secretary of State and Northern State University Team up for Economic Report

PIERRE, S.D. (November 26, 2013) - Secretary of State Jason Gant has issued the Secretary of State’s Economic Report for the 3rd Quarter of 2013 based on corporate registration data. This issue is the beginning of collaboration between the Secretary’s office and Northern State University School of Business.

"We are excited to be working with Northern State University.  This collaboration has been months in the making and we are proud of the work that has resulted.  Our office receives various business filings and we wanted to share that information with the public in a relevant way.  Working with the faculty and staff at NSU allows us to do so," said Gant.

Dr. Willard Broucek, NSU Dean of Business, added, "Northern State is honored to be working with Secretary Gant and his office on the report.  Our missions dovetail seamlessly in providing the people of South Dakota with useful and timely information." 

Dr. Sara Schmidt, who with her colleagues at Northern State University worked with the Secretary of State’s office to produce the report, indicated, "Most economic indicators, both nationally as well as in South Dakota, point positive.  Some economists are concerned that the positives are being propped up by the tremendous amount of federal interventions into money supply.  However, the Fed’s interventions in the years after the "Great Recession" didn’t move the dial.  This year, the dial is moving and that’s a real positive.  Our state continues to prove less prone to the volatile swings experienced by other states – which could be the result of a more conservative approach to spending and a better economic core in agriculture, tourism, business and its labor force."

This is the ninth issue of the Secretary’s Economic Report.  Secretary Gant issues these reports on a quarterly basis that include corporate data and other business related activities.
