Werkmeister Welding Expanding in Armour, S.D.

PIERRE, S.D. – Werkmeister Welding, a leading manufacturer of cattle feeding equipment, is expanding its operations in Armour, S.D., building a 19,500 square foot facility and adding 28 full-time employees.

“Werkmeister Welding’s expansion in Armour is a perfect example of how businesses can thrive in rural South Dakota,” said Bill Even, director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “The family-owned company’s hard work and success will bring new opportunities to the community – a positive impact for Armour and all of South Dakota. This expansion brings the state closer to realizing its 2010 Initiative goal of increasing the gross state product by $10 billion.”

Werkmeister will utilize $300,000 from the state’s Revolving Economic Development & Initiative (REDI) Fund to build the facility.

The company’s products include creep/self cattle feeders, feed bunks, feeder wagons and loading chutes. Demand for these products has grown to the point that Werkmeister Welding is operating at maximum capacity and outgrew its current building. The new building will house a paint facility and office space, and open the original building for storage use.

“My family founded this business back in 1982 – bringing years of agricultural manufacturing experience to the company. Now in our third generation with Werkmeister Welding, our products’ unmatched durability and strength are continuing to provide the kind of quality the agricultural industry needs,” said Darold Werkmeister, owner of Werkmeister Welding. “We’re excited to see our hard work pay off, and anticipate continued success in our hometown of Armour.“
